Revealed: The world-first tech giving Socceroos WC edge

THE Socceroos are preparing to take on the world's best at the World Cup, and have turned to a technology never before used at international level to obtain an edge over the competition.

Australia's Head of Sports Science Craig Duncan is on a mission to manage the fatigue of players and has revealed a cutting-edge system being used by the side.

"Over the previous three months we have worked on a strategy focused on making sure players come into camp in a physiological condition [that will] meet the requirements of the training schedule," Duncan said.

"Our experience with managing travel is extensive and most players have been based in Europe so flight times and time zone changes are not disruptive to the wellbeing of the player."

"Some members of the squad are contending with long flights in order to arrive in Turkey for the Aussies' pre World Cup training camp.

"For those travelling from Australia and Asia we prepare and implement a travel strategy to ensure they are ready to train when required.

"We also use technology that monitors the players physiological status on a minute-by-minute basis.

"This technology [is one] that we are the first to use internationally and gives us data that enhances our ability to predict a player's readiness to train."

The Socceroos will spend time in camp in Antalya before taking on Czech Republic in a friendly on June 1 as their World Cup preparations continue.
