Bleijie and Simpson to meet with visiting Royals
FIONA Simpson was a teenager when her dad, Gordon, had lunch with Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
Next month, the Speaker of Parliament and Member for Maroochydore will have a chance to dine with their son.
Ms Simpson is rumoured to be included in the top secret list of 224 invitation-only invitees to an April 19 reception with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate.
She will join a line up of 12 VIP guests, which is believed to include fellow Sunshine Coast MP and Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie, at an exclusive function at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Unfortunately, adorable Prince George won't be coming to Queensland for the visit and will stay in Sydney with a nanny.
But then again, it appears Prince William, who was born on June 21, 1982, was also left behind when his mum and dad visited the Sunshine Coast in 1983.
Ms Simpson's father, Gordon, fondly remembered his brief meeting with Princess Diana when he was the Member for Cooroora.
"We were at the Big Pineapple. It was strange, because people tended to leave Diana on her own (and talk to Prince Charles)," Mr Simpson said.
"She held a plate with two little sandwiches on it. I know I said to her 'oh, you are not eating'.
Mr Simpson was "really excited for Fiona".
And he is hoping she might pick one of his grandchildren for the special event.
