AS THE cost of living continues to rise, households are facing more challenges than ever.

Leading up to Christmas, the struggle to make ends meet can see families unable to put food on the table.

In partnership with The Shack Community Centre and Hertiage Bank, METRO Care is calling on the Coast to help these families enjoy a Christmas meal.

The 2017 Loads of Love appeal was recently launched at Maroochydore Heritage Bank.

Organiser Matt Gregg said they're aiming to collect at least 15,000kilograms of non-perishable food.

"Last year we collected just over 14,000kg so we don't think it's a stretch so we've started to say we ought to start looking at 20,000kg,” Mr Gregg said.

Food donated at any of the seven Sunshine Coast Heritage Bank branches will be distributed by The Shack.

Office manager Donna Dowler said the number of donations already is phenomenal.

"We've already had probably 30 bags come in and it's only just launched on the Coast so it's really exciting that people are wanting to show their love for others,” she said.

"We're looking at going into a couple of places where there's a number of residents and delivering over 100 food parcels at each place.

"We break them down into family, couples and singles packs which makes it a lot easier for us to make sure everybody gets something so they enjoy their Christmas Day.”

Donations can be made at any Heritage Bank branch until December 22.
