Former stepfather faces child sex charges in court

A MAN who allegedly spied on his young stepdaughter while she showered faced a Gladstone court on Tuesday.

The first day of the man's trial began on Tuesday in Gladstone District Court.

The man, who cannot be identified, faces two charges of indecent treatment of a child, under 12; under care and acharge of indecent treatment of a child under 16, under care.

A jury of six women and six men heard pre-recorded evidence from two underage witnesses: the victim, who is also the defendant's former stepdaughter, and her best friend.

It is alleged the man committed the three offences between 2007 and 2010 while involved in a relationship with the victim's mother.

The victim provided evidence claiming her mistreatment began when the family was living in Kin Kora when she was eight years old.

The court heard the alleged offences continued until the girl was 12.

The girl, who is now 15 and no longer lives in Gladstone, told police the defendant had inappropriately touched her leg and watched her through a window use the bathroom.

It is also alleged the victim was told to remove her shirt by the defendant if she wanted to visit her friend's house.

Jurors will hear from more crown witnesses on Wednesday.

The trial, presided over by Judge David Reid, is expected to run all week.
