'Wheelie' stinky, disgusting problem ruining Coast parks

DIRTY nappies, discarded sandwiches, rotten fruit, left-over meat from the barbie and heaps of other rubbish are creating a wheelie big problem at some Sunshine Coast parks.

David Cantor is fed up with the smell that comes from public refuse bins in Caloundra.

"Every bin stinks and a lot of them are overflowing with rubbish," he said.

"We can't use our lovely tables situated in our park lands when there is a stinking bin within metres of it."

Mr Cantor believes garbage contractor, Remondis, is to blame as the situation wasn't so bad before it took over the Sunshine Coast Council contract for refuge in 2014. "If Remondis is responsible for the hygiene of our public bins they need to be asked why they are in the appalling state they are in," he said.

"Caloundra won the the Tidy Town award back in the mid 2000s and it's sad to think that the most liveable region will never get an award like that again with the current performance from our waste collection company."

The Daily has contacted Remondis and the Sunshine Coast Council for comment.

Do you think public bins stink? Where are the worst ones on the Coast?
