Stott strikes Cup goal

FOOTBALL: New Zealand may not have qualified for the next stage of the Women's World Cup at Canada but former Sunshine Coaster Rebekah Stott still has some cause for celebration, after scoring a goal on the sport's biggest stage

Stott hit the back of the net in the side's 2-2 draw with China in its final group game.

Born in New Zealand, Stott lived on the Sunshine Coast during her teenage years.

She represented Australia at under-17 and under-20 level before choosing to represent her birth country at senior level.

The 21-year-old has since played 42 games for the Ferns.

At club level she has played for Melbourne Victory and is now with SC Sand in Germany.
