Workshop tackles a subject we are dying to ignore
IT'S the elephant in the room that we don't talk about.
Start chatting about death and see how quickly you can shut down a conversation.
Yet it's a topic that fills us all with fear and fascination.
What happens when we die? What is dying actually like? Is there an afterlife?
It's a subject that Dr Colin Dicks is very familiar with after working with cancer patients for 20 years.
He has a long list of qualifications, including in palliative medicine.
He's also written a book, About Dying, a five-year labour of love that was as much about what you don't cover as what you do.
Dr Dicks is holding a free community workshop in Nambour on Saturday in the hope of taking some of the fear out of death.
He believes far too many people limit their life by "living in the shadow of death''.
His advice is: "Find out about dying. Put death in its place and get on with living."
The workshop will be held from 8.30am-2pm this Saturday at Flametree church, Nambour. To register email firstname.lastname@example.org.
