Surfing snake stuns Sunshine Coast holiday crowd

A SNAKE caught a wave at Kings Beach and caused a mini panic with beachgoers yesterday.

A rather large Labour Day crowd got quite the shock when the reptile, believed to be a brown snake, made its way up the beach.

Currimundi man Phil Nielsen was on the beach with his children enjoying the last day of school holidays when the drama unfolded about 10am.

"It might have come from behind the pool. It came really close to some kids at one point. There was a bit of a panic when it happened."

Mr Nielsen said lifesavers were calling in to help when the snake slithered through a tent, and into the fenced-off area for the Caloundra Music Festival.
