Endangered Tasmanian Devil to get $3m habitat funding
THE endangered Tasmanian devil could soon benefit from a $3 million federal grant to support high-priority habitat for the rare animal.
Environment Minister Greg Hunt announced the funding on Thursday would go to fencing off the habitat for a sanctuary for the devil.
He said the area would be a disease-free zone, as part of efforts to battle the devil facial tumour disease which has added to its endangered status.
The area, he said, would provide a "new insurance population" of devils to help rebuild population and allow for better management of the world's largest marsupial.
