Police prosecutor Stephen Potter told Maroochydore Magistrates Court police were called to the club on August 8.

Police arrived and arrested Patterson.

They could not find the knife on him.

"Police then spoke with security who stated the defendant had approached a group of patrons leaving the venue and became aggressive towards them," Sergeant Potter said.

"The defendant was yelling and screaming at the patrons repeating several times that he was looking for another person that he wanted to kill.

"The patrons became fearful and ran away."

The court heard Patterson than began chasing them before security were able to divert his attention.

Sgt Potter told the court security saw the knife in Patterson's pocket before he ran away.

The court heard Patterson returned and security could no longer see the knife.

He told police he had thrown the knife in a pond and denied producing the knife at any time.

Patterson pleaded guilty on Monday to possessing a knife in a public place and committing public nuisance.

Patterson's lawyer Lachlan Ygoa-McKeown said Patterson was intoxicated on the night.

Mr Ygoa-McKeown said he realised what Patterson had said on the night was concerning but he was taking steps to address his mental health.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said he took into account Patterson's limited criminal history.

He fined Patterson $550.

No convictions were recorded.
