Teenager charged with assaulting three police officers

A TEENAGE girl has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman before turning on police in Roma this morning.

Police claim 2.10am a 34-year-old woman was walking on McDowell Street with friends when she became involved in a verbal altercation with a 17-year-old girl.

The girl then allegedly attacked the woman, punching her in the head and face and pulling her hair before she fled the scene.

The woman sustained minor injuries from the assault.

However, it is further claimed police later approached a girl on McDowell Street and as they attempted to take her into custody she punched a male constable in the head.

The girl then allegedly attacked a female constable, striking her in the mouth.

A male sergeant who attended the scene was also allegedly assaulted by the girl as he escorted her into the police vehicle.

The three officers sustained bruises as a result of the attacks and were treated at Roma Hospital.

A 17-year-old Eagleby girl has been charged with three counts of serious assault police and one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and is due to appear in Roma Magistrates Court tomorrow.
