THE Inner Wheel Club of the Sunshine Coast is part of a huge world-wide organisation which is little known in our community.
The Sunshine Coast chapter has many members from Maroochydore, Caloundra and the hinterland and aims to create another club in the northern area of the region.
At the November meeting, the Coast club was surprised with the donation of a cheque for $500 from the Rotary Club of Caloundra.
The donation is specifically for the everyday objects which are part of the 2000 birthing kits produced by the Inner Wheel Club of the Sunshine Coast each year for use by village nurses in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.
The kits have simple components but are very often the only assistance for birthing mums that the village nurse is able to provide in remote communities.
Inner Wheel is the largest women's organisation in the world, having 110,000 members in 103 countries. It was formed by wives of Rotarians in 1924.
The close association with Rotary continues today.
However, members no longer need to be connected with Rotary members: anyone may join to experience friendship, fun and helping others in the local community, Australia and internationally.
