Tool thief pinches chippy’s livelihood
A CARPENTER has been left without a livelihood after his trailer and tools were stolen from a Buddina building site.
Patrick Vaisnys estimated he had lost about $20,000 of tools in the theft, which happened between 3.30pm Sunday and 7am Monday.
Mr Vaisnys said the towing mechanism of the trailer had been locked and it had been left behind a locked fence at the Beltana St site.
"I thought it was safer than outside my place," he said.
Mr Vaisnys said the trailer contained a tool collection he had built up during nine years as a carpenter, as well as some tools belonging to his boss and co-workers.
He was not sure yesterday how he would make up the loss.
The belongings were not insured because Mr Vaisnys had found the premium for full coverage too expensive.
Without tools, he cannot work.
"I can't borrow tools from my mates because they need to use them," he said.
To make matters worse, Mr Vaisnys was due to start building a house in a partnership project in just three weeks.
The missing tools are mostly Makita brand. The registration number of the charcoal grey trailer was DG2 807.
