Thunder reps play strong against PNG
LAST week four Tewantin-Noosa teenage cricketers were selected in a Sunshine Coast Under 21 Team to play against the touring PNG Under 19 World Cup team at Caloundra.
Selected were Alex Bennett (batsman), Nick Bennett (off-break bowler), Tristan Griffin (wicket- keeper-batsman) and Lachie Gunner (all rounder).
The teams played three matches and, although the Sunshine Coast players won all three, the PNG boys showed lots of flair and determination, especially in the field. For most of their players it was the first time they had travelled outside PNG and they savoured every minute of the games.
They showed loads of enthusiasm, especially in their appealing and chasing in the outfield.
The TNT players displayed their skill and experience with Nick Bennett and Lachie Gunner taking three wickets each.
Tristan Griffin was efficient behind the stumps and Alex Bennett batted solidly in the 20/20 match.
Unfortunately the last match, scheduled for last Friday, was abandoned due to the very wet Caloundra field. The PNG team is sponsored by the ICC and later this year will play in the Under 19 World Cup.
The selection criteria was that all Sunshine Coast players had to be under the age of 21 and must have played first-grade cricket.
