Tigers hand Sea Eagles mauling in the big Sydney wet

THE effect of three consecutive brutal games finally took its toll yesterday as an energetic Wests Tigers mauled Manly 34-18 on an afternoon the Leichhardt Oval faithful will talk about for years.

Having seen off South Sydney (round two), Parramatta (round three) and the defending premiers Sydney Roosters last weekend, Manly simply had no answer to the Tigers pumped-up forwards, including prop Aaron Woods (pictured) who scored one try and had another disallowed as the Tigers smashed their way to a 26-6 half-time lead.

The win maintained the Tigers' great strike rate at their spiritual Leichhardt Oval ground in front of 16,000 fans who braved the ugly weather.

Skipper Robbie Farah was outstanding for the home side, while boom young halfback Luke Brooks shone in another busy effort with the ball, and also some excellent defence against a physical Manly outfit that tried to intimidate him.

Manly's loss could be compounded after star halfback Daly Cherry-Evans was placed on report for a possible knee in a tackle in the 26th minute.
