Time is right for Sunderland to start rebuilding
FOOTBALL: Sunderland stalwart Lee Cattermole says the club's rebuilding process must begin immediately as the Black Cats prepare for life in the English Championship.
David Moyes' team was relegated from the English Premier League last week following a loss to Middlesbrough and Hull's 0-0 draw with Southampton.
Cattermole told the Sunderland club website there was no time to waste getting ready for the battle to the top flight.
"It's been a frustrating season, going right back to pre-season it's been an uphill battle and it's one we haven't managed to come through and it's very disappointing," he said.
"But we need to have a look at the position we're in, the club as a whole, and try to learn and improve from this experience especially, and other seasons when we've managed to come through.
"That takes a lot of hard work, effort and commitment. One thing we've got now is time, but we can't waste that, we need to bounce back quickly and look to improve the club as a whole."
Sunderland may only have pride to play for now but can still have a big say in the relegation battle with games against fourth-from-bottom Hull City on Saturday night (EST) and Swansea City (currently in the last relegations spot) next week.
