Timmy's back! Cahill scores in Millwall return

FOOTBALL: Socceroos veteran Tim Cahill has enjoyed a successful first appearance in his return to English club Millwall, grabbing a goal for the Lions' under-23s side in a 3-2 win over Coventry City.

Despite being 38 years old, Cahill was allowed to play in the under-23s clash with rules allowing for each side to field three overage players in their starting line-up.

Cahill finished off from close range to give the Lions a 2-1 lead after fellow Australian Kristian Brymora, 19, had scored Millwall's opening goal. Coventry drew level ahead of the half-time break with Millwall grabbing the winner in the 90th minute.

Millwall's first team will play Rochdale in the FA Cup this morning (AEST) before taking on Cardiff just 72 hours later but manager Neil Harris warned fans it could be a little while before Cahill lines up in the top squad.

"He's not going to be fit for a couple of weeks,” Harris said.

"He's not done a lot in the last seven weeks since leaving Oz, so we're going to have to be patient with him.”

Cahill, who last played for the Lions in the 2004 FA Cup final, returned to the Championship club last month after exiting Melbourne City in December in his search for more regular football before the national team heads to Russia in June.

Australia's all-time leading scorer is attempting to become only the fourth player to score at four successive World Cups.
