Noosa ready to rock
YOU don’t talk about charisma with Rebecca O’Connor.
You feel it.
Her sizzling presence dazzled beachgoers on Wednesday afternoon as she sashayed along Main Beach boardwalk for a Noosa News’ photographic shoot.
The Tina Turner look-alike and her tiny red dress waded in their natural element: the limelight.
In a very public way, this woman was destined to be the private dancer, and even the real Tina Turner agrees with that.
Now the exotic looking woman with a very ordinary Irish name calls Noosa home and is ready to rock at Noosa Heads surf club this month.
It’s the start of a world tour for an audience that just can’t get enough of the Tina Turner concept show.
With her own voice, dance and theatrics, this vivacious woman had led millions of people through an electrifying musical experience.
A serious dancer by the age of three, it was a clear calling for the 35-year-old Rebecca.
By four, after being urged by her father to watch a television Tina Turner special, she had added voice to the dance.
She never looked back. Rebecca O’Connor fell in love with Tina Turner and channelled her.
From then on she sang and shimmied her way to the stars .
In 2002 her moment arrived when the people of Europe gave her a collective nod for being “simply the best”.
In front of a television audience of 33 million, Rebecca won the Stars in Your Eyes talent competition.
It was rocket fuel for her career and propelled her into worldwide performances.
She has just spent two weeks performing at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
“It takes about 1100 people there and we were doing sold-out performances,” Rebecca said.
A little more than a year ago, she discovered Australia and did the finale for the Noosa Food and Wine fest.
But in the same way she fell for Tina Turner, she has fallen for the charms of Noosa.
“I just love Noosa.
“Everything is here,” she enthused.
“Beach, restaurants, the weather is great.”
While some of us might be wondering about the recent weather, she qualifies the statement with an apt comparison.
“When it rains, it’s still warm here.
“Compared to the rain in Ireland, this is fantastic here.”
Rebecca, who is living at Doonan, is about to present us with her concept show that is “simply the best”.
Manager Dennis Dunstan, who is promoting her global tour, said it was time for Noosa to rock and Rebecca was the lady to get it started.
