Enterprise boss calls for inland rail to come to Toowoomba

TOOWOOMBA and Surat Basin Enterprise CEO Shane Charles has pushed the significant impact the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail Project will have on Toowoomba when he made a presentation at yesterday's Inland Rail Symposium in Moree.

Stakeholders had the opportunity to provide input into decisions regarding the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail route, access points along the route and appropriate technologies to be used.

Mr Charles argued a rail line through Toowoomba was the preferred route.

The Melbourne-to-Brisbane Inland Railway was also on the table at the first meeting of the newly formed Inland Railway Implementation Group in Canberra.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the first meeting of the group was a significant precursor to construction.

"I have made no secret of the fact that it is a priority for this Government. We will make it happen."
