Toowoomba council crew didn’t dial before dig
A MULTI-MILLION dollar business is losing money for a second day now after Toowoomba Regional Council severed a major Telstra cable during works in Harristown on Sunday.
Staff from event management company Australian Events on Duhig St came to work on Monday morning to an email and phone outage.
Business manager Lorna Collins was aware council was working on the corner of Anzac Av and Stephen St, but they were not advised that the works caused an outage.
The "worst case scenario" is the outage won't be fixed until Thursday next week. Numerous businesses and homes are also affected.
"That's unacceptable, a multi-million-dollar business cannot cope with no phones for 10 days," she said.
A Telstra spokesman said technicians had attempted to install a temporary service but were unable due to the level of damage.
Toowoomba Regional Council infrastructure services general manager Mike Brady said no issues were reported at the time of the works and council was only made aware of the issues this morning.
Ms Collins said it was disappointing to not have heard from council, especially after its promotion of Dial Before You Dig, a free national referral service designed to prevent damage and disruption to the vast pipe and cable networks.
"So why didn't council practice what they preach?" she asked.
