Two arrested after fleeing across border to escape police

TWO men have been arrested in New South Wales after two vehicles were involved in evade police offences across South East Queensland last night.

Around 7.20pm police attempted to intercept a car travelling south along the Pacific Highway at Yatala. The driver failed to comply and accelerated away from the police vehicle.

Both police helicopters, POLAIR 1 and POLAIR 2 tracked the movements of the vehicle along the Pacific Highway and then through areas of Southport and Runaway Bay.

Police deployed stingers on the southbound lanes of Olsen Avenue which were successful in deflating one of the car's tyres.

The car has then continued to travel for approximately 15 minutes before the driver has left that vehicle and entered another vehicle being driven by a second man. It is believed both men were known to each other.

The pair continued driving in a south bound direction crossing the border into New South Wales where they were detained by police.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
