V8 Supercars come to town
REDBULL Racing Australia's champion V8 Supercar team is testing at Morgan Park today.
The number one team will be joined by Tekno Autosports on the track for crucial testing ahead of the enduros.
For those who would like to see the teams in action the gates to Morgan Park will be open from 8.30am.
Warwick District Sporting Car Club president Bill Campbell said he was proud of the fact the Warwick track was considered suitable for V8 testing.
"There will be 10 or more staff in town with each car," Campbell said.
"We hope to have more trialling as it will be good for the town and put Warwick on the map a bit more."
While it won't be the first time V8 Supercars have been tested at Morgan Park, the drivers coming today will be the highest-profile to test at this track.
"The Car of the Future has also been tested at Morgan Park," he said.
"V8 Supercar teams are only allowed three practice days a year, so they make each day a big one."
Owing to safety concerns at Queensland Raceway, near Ipswich, V8 Supercars Australia has told all Queensland-based teams they're able to run tests at other circuits.
Red Bull's five-time V8 Supercar champion driver, Jamie Whincup, told Speedcafe.com last week he wouldn't be surprised if their racing team never returned to Queensland Raceway.
It was reported Queensland Raceway failed to meet CAMS safety requirements.
The Ipswich venue was forced to undergo safety adjustments to qualify for a temporary CAMS licence, required to run the Coates Hire Ipswich 400 last month.
