VIEW club combines high tea with fashion for chic fundraiser

LADIES of the Buderim VIEW Club wrapped up a big year of fundraising last Wednesday with a chic morning high tea and fashion parade.

Club members Eva Sternberg, Helen Bukmanis, Adele Leigh and Mary Parker were among half a dozen models spruiking light summer wear from Meg's Boutique, while about 50 other ladies enjoyed a cup of tea and chatted amongst themselves.

Programme Officer Jenny Jackson said the club raised more than $5000 for The Smith Family over the past year, money used to help underprivileged children through school.

"We have five students on our books, and we pay for their uniforms, sports activities, excursions, everything these kids need,” she said.

The club, which aims to further the voices, interests and education of women, has also been the foundation for many close friendships, the ladies said.

Nelleke Swinfield said she had found a number of lifelong friends through the club, as did Diane Higgins, who said she had been a member for about 20 years now.

The group is also doing a Christmas toy and book drive so Santa can still visit families who are struggling financially over Christmas.
