Waiting on brother

WHEN Canterbury fullback Ben Barba scooped the pool at the Dally M Awards, no one was prouder than his grandmother back home in Mackay.

As proud as she was of his talent on the field, it was his humility at the presentations that impressed his biggest fan even more.

"God has given him the talent that he has," she said after watching the awards presentation with a host of family members.

"He is a very humble - his humility really showed. As long as he stays like that he'll be fine."

Interestingly, "Nanna", who has 32 grandchildren, said she did not know whether Ben was even the best player among them.

"We don't know if he's the most talented of the boys, until we see what Marmin can do," she said.

Marmin is the youngest of four Barba brothers and has been playing Jersey Flegg with Parramatta.

He was named after his grandfather, a keen St George supporter, who passed away in 2000.

"His grandfather was a great fan of all the boys throughout their football careers," Nanna said.
