CANCELLED: Weather stops Island Charity Swim

THE Island Charity Swim has been cancelled for the first time in its 13-year history because of adverse weather conditions.

A decision was made yesterday on the basis of advice provided by the weather bureau, lifeguards and independent forecasters that a predicted deterioration of conditions from today and through the weekend would make it impossible for the 11km swim from Mudjimba around Old Woman Island to Mooloolaba to be staged.

Consideration was given to rerouting the event from Mooloolaba to Mudjimba.

However a predicted increase in swell and rising winds were expected to make conditions too difficult for support craft including paddlers.

Inquiries can be directed to Joce Culpitt at rculpitt@bigpond.com or Brad Adams ( bradhelen02@bigpond.com).
