THERE is only about six months left to holiday at the popular beachfront Mooloolaba Esplanade Caravan Park.

When the 10-year commercial lease from the State Government for this land expires in June, it will be permanently closed.

A Sunshine Coast Council spokeswoman said the relocated caravan park sites "provides an opportunity for all members of the community to enjoy an additional hectare of beach front public parkland".

"This continuous shared use promenade would stretch along the full length of the northern foreshore and include three new play areas for children, an accessible tidal pool and increased grassed areas and barbecue facilities," she said.

It will also allow for the council to create the "Great Ocean Walk" continuing towards Alexandra Headland.

"More than 70% of people who provided feedback as part of the consultation process supported relocation of the Mooloolaba Esplanade (Northern) Caravan Park sites to create increased public open space and provide for a future Great Ocean Walk around Alexandra Headland."
