PRINCES William and Harry faced the axe when their cameo in the latest Star Wars movie hit the cutting room floor.

According to the Mail on Sunday, the short scene was deleted from the final edit despite the royals getting in the iconic costumes for the rolling cameras, The Sun reports.

Rumours first emerged that the pair have made their big screen debut in a scene featuring a group of Stormtroopers guarding the Empire ship, following a set visit in April 2016.

A source has told the publication: "Stormtroopers have to be exactly 5ft 11in. At the time we shot it I think the feeling was that the scene would make the final movie.

"Everyone feels bad that William and Harry lost out on their big moment. However, the scene just didn't work for the final cut so it was left out."

Prince Harry stands at 6ft 1in while his older brother is an inch taller. Despite this, it was thought at the time of The Last Jedi's release in December 2017 that they supported Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma in a battle sequence.

The news comes after Star Wars actor John Boyega was forced to apologise following an appearance on ITV's This Morning, where he joked that the princes had been cut from the movie.

The actor - who plays Finn in the hit franchise - was asked if the Princes had played stormtroopers.

He replied: "Yeah they were man, I'm sick of this. They were but they were cut out of the film.

When show host Phillip Schofield asked if the pair had ended up on the cutting room floor, John implied that their acting skills hadn't been up to scratch.

"I did personally apologise to them yesterday and said: "Sorry you were cut out of the film, and Will was like: "I probably just need to work more on the skills."

But a spokesman for John said: "I can confirm he was joking."
