Wilson dumped out of Tahiti Pro despite perfect 10
COOLUM surfer Julian Wilson has been dumped from the Billabong Tahiti Pro, despite recovering from a horrendous wipe out to score a perfect 10.
Wilson was left with blood seeping from his chin after smashing into the reef at the notorious Teahupoo break.
He trailed Hawaii's John John Florence, who has jumped to the top of the World Surf League leader board, for much of the quarter final match up before producing the perfect 10 score with just seconds remaining in the contest.
However, in a decision which will be hotly debated, judges gave Florence a 9.17 score for his last ride on the bell to enable him to clinch a place in the semi finals.
The final result was 17.34 to Florence ahead of Wilson's 16.60.
The Hawaiian went on to win his semi final match up with former world champion Gabrielle Medina and will face 44-year-old 11-time world champ Kelly Slater in the final.
Slater beat Australian Adrian Buchan in the other semi final to advance to the decider.
The result should keep Wilson in the tour top ten.
