WINE REVIEW: A toast to the fallen for Anzac Day

ANZAC Day. The day when we and our Kiwi brethren forget all the trans-Tasman rivalries and pause to remember thousands of young men shipped across the seas to a foreign shore, only to be part of one of the great martial tragedies of all time at the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey.

The battle over many months has become such a formative event of the then two emerging nations and it also saw the rise of Kemal Ataturk, known as the father of modern Turkey.

This edition pays homage to the wines of New Zealand, Australia and, of course, Turkey.

This syrah/shiraz is grown on the peninsula the Anzacs landed at on the morning of April 25, 1915. Fragrant blackberry and smooth vanilla bean mix with dried herbs, white pepper and earthy bluestone.
