WOGGIES owner Dom Rognoni is finding it difficult to escape the limelight. Luckily he's not shy.

Since making national news for the name that raised eyebrows, the Italian restaurant has gained more recognition as a Town Proud favourite.

It was voted one of Toowoomba's top 10 new businesses in The Chronicle's campaign.

Mr Rognoni said he still couldn't understand the hype over the story that went viral and warranted a mention on the Jay Leno show.

"We've had some Europeans come out and say yes, we're wogs," he joked.

"It's becoming trendy."

A Toowoomba local for 50 years, Mr Rognoni said he and his wife Donna ran their restaurant based on the ethos of family first.

"We treat our staff like family."

His mention of "locals supporting locals" is the heart of The Chronicle's Town Proud campaign, encouraging residents to think, support and buy close to home.

Through shopping locally at participating businesses, residents get the chance to win a $10,000 prize plus a $2000 runners-up prize.

Entries close on June 27 and the winner will be drawn on July 1.

Participating businesses that buy a merchandise pack will also go into the draw to win a $10,000 advertising package from The Chronicle and Southern Cross Austereo.

Wagners, Wellcamp Airport, the University of Southern Queensland, Heritage Bank and Toowoomba Regional Council are major sponsors.
