Thief comes a cropper after stealing keys and car at pub
A WOMAN who stole a set of keys from a man at a pub and then stole his car has been jailed.
Karlie Maree Cropper, 22, pleaded guilty on Thursday in Ipswich District Court to the unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
She was also charged with arson but those charges were dropped.
The court heard the offences took place on May 23, 2014 at Redbank and Gailes between 3pm and 4.30pm.
Crown prosecutor Elizabeth Kelso told the court the string of events started at the Commercial Hotel at Redbank.
She said Cropper and a male accomplice stole a set of car keys from a man who left them on his table when he went to get a beer.
The car was then crashed in Veronica St, Gailes before being torched - resulting in the car being written off.
Ms Kelso told the court Cropper had an eight-page criminal history both as a juvenile and adult which was littered with drug, property and dishonesty offences.
She said Cropper was on probation when this offence was committed.
"She has a persistent and continued history of offending which started when she was 15," she said.
"She has been given the benefit of the doubt for the past six years and she has not taken advantage of those opportunities."
Her alleged co-accused, Curtis William Gibson, 20, faced trial this week in Ipswich District Court and was subsequently found not guilty of the charges against him.
Defence barrister Scott Neaves said Cropper had a daughter who was in state care.
He said Cropper had a long-term drug issue, especially with ice.
Judge Sarah Bradley sentenced Cropper to three months behind bars.
Cropper will be eligible to apply for parole on March 15, 2016 when she completes a sentence imposed on her last year for an unrelated matter.
