HE'S only 22 but Sunshine Coast Young Entrepreneur of the Year Daniel Proctor knew from his first job that he would one day start his own business.
On the night of the Sunshine Coast Business Awards gala the Noosa resident was beaming ear to ear.
"I was stoked,” Daniel said.
"I'm a pretty modest kind of person but I was pretty stoked to get that award. It's cool.
"It kind of puts in concrete all the hard work I've done, I guess. It's paid off.”
Daniel is the founder of three businesses including the Student Wow Card, which hooks up high school, TAFE and university students with cheap deals from more than 250 advertising businesses such as gyms, fast food outlets and entertainment venues.
Launched in 2014 at the University of the Sunshine Coast where his office is located, Student Wow Card now has 50,000 members.
Daniel studied in Brisbane to become an aircraft engineer but when he finished university the airlines weren't hiring, he said, and he decided to do something different.
He moved to the Coast, where he grew up, and hit on the idea of Student Wow Card after researching discount cards and realising there were none for Coast students to access.
"We had the idea that students want to save money,” he said. "There was nothing on the Sunshine Coast that offered discounts to students specially.”
Daniel runs Student Wow Card with business partner Dorthea Knudsen, originally from Sweden.
Dorthea is also co-founder of the second business, a creative agency called Pixler, and business partner in Daniel's third, printing company Print Wise.
Both Pixler and Print Wise were spin-offs from Student Wow Card in a sense, Daniel said.
"A lot of businesses that advertise with Student Wow Card needed a new website or their logo needed a modern twist. So we offer those too.”
