NYE home invasion teen arrested on return-to-prison warrant

A MACKAY man given immediate parole for his involvement in fatal home invasion has been returned to jail.

Jessi Michael Kennedy was one of four people charged after a New Year's Eve home invasion went horrifically wrong.

The 20 year old was back-up for a group that went to an Andergrove home and forced a way inside.

As a result, Corey Verburg, 20, was stabbed by the homeowner and later died on Glenpark St.

Mr Kennedy watched his close mate bleed out and die on the roadside.

In early December last year, he was jailed for 18 months with immediate parole, but at the time he was already been in custody since October 31 on unrelated charges.

Mackay Magistrates Court yesterday heard Mr Kennedy had been sitting in the watch-house on a return-to-prison warrant for the past week.

The court heard his parole was cancelled on October 20 this year.

He is accused of eight offences linked to drugs, weapons and stealing.

Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan said Mr Kennedy was charged with possessing ice, MDMA and marijuana and a glass pipe on May 23 this year at South Mackay.

He is also charged with possessing a category A, B or M weapons, stealing and another drug and utensils possession charge.

The court heard Mr Kennedy had not yet lodged a legal aid application. The case was adjourned for four weeks.
