Child learning thieving ways

A YOUNG child is learning the thieving ways of a woman caring for him - putting headphones down his pants as he watched the woman steal a disposable camera.

The woman, 57, stole food from Woolworths and the camera from KMart, at Riverlink on July 4. As she put the camera into the pram and walked out, a young boy in her care pocketed a set of headphones.

When police questioned the woman, who can't be named to protect the identity of the child, she said she "forgot" to pay.

The woman faced Ipswich Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing.

She also pleaded guilty to fraud, after claiming $510 in emergency grants to which she wasn't entitled, on April 7 last year, following the floods.

Given her criminal history for dishonesty, she was sentenced to three months prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to repay $510 to the state.
