UPDATE: Race cars and zoo animals may not be obvious bedfellows, but the two are set to come together for the inaugural RACQ Australia Zoom this Father's Day weekend.

Australia Zoo will be hosting 30 rare road and race cars to mark the start of a five year alliance with RACQ to help raise funds for Australia Zoo's Wildlife Warriors.

As a taster Lexus of Maroochydore invited some of Australia Zoo's scaly and fluffy residents to its showroom to pose beside a Lexus ISF race car, one of the high octane machines set to appear at the Beerwah zoo on September 6 and 7.

Lauren Ritchie of RACQ said the event was a celebration of all things four wheeled and four legged, and it was an exciting collaboration with Australia Zoo.

"There will be a special show in the Crocoseum with cars revving their engines and Dan Bowden showcasing and talking about modern and classic racing cars," she said.

Jeremy Morgan from Australia Zoo said the alliance was an important one for the zoo as he cradled Dusty the black headed python.

"RACQ help us with sponsorship and have donated two of our rescue vehicles, so it will be a fantastic weekend of cars and animals to enjoy," he said.

"It may be a bit difficult moving all the vehicles and animals around, but nothing like this will have been seen at Australia zoo before."

The weekend's entertainment will include Andrew Lawson of X-Factor fame, two shows by the Irwins and racing legend Dick Johnson on hand to meet fans.

Cars expected include the Lexus racers, cars from Dick Johnson Racing, Porsche Carrera Cup cars, V8 Supercars, sprint cars and classic racers.

EARLIER: WITH moves like a cheetah, the roar of a lion and power of a crocodile, wildlife and supercar worlds will collide when Australia Zoo meets the Lexus IS-F racing car.

The Lexus Maroochydore dealership will hold the official launch of the RACQ's Australia Zoom event on the Father's Day weekend, September 6-7.

Australian racing legend Dick Johnson will be at this year's event which will include motorsport displays, V8 Supercars, Porsche Carrerra Cup racers, off-road vehicles, sprint cars and classic race cars.

There will also be a dedicated "fun zone" for kids, with race simulators, live entertainment and roving wildlife.

Organisers said guests would have the opportunity to get up close and personal with race teams, cars, drivers and pit crews.

All the proceeds will go towards supporting Australia Zoo's Wildlife Warriors.
